Sometimes all one needs is to talk to a friend to clear one's head. I'd flipped over the project from yesterday (I was right that it would look less offensive today) in preparation for binding it, and soon found myself second guessing my decision to use the same fabric as on the first Bishop's Close quilt. I'm thinking of these two as companion pieces - indeed, they will soon be hanging side by side in an exhibit - so my decisions regarding the second version have been influenced by the first version. This second version has more dark navy in it and the dark blue batik I laid next to it looked very good. Argh... I started toying with the idea of using it as piping, or easier still, couching a decorative thread along the seam, when my friend called.

She patiently listened to me grouse about this quilt, explain my dilemma, admit I was probably over-thinking this, speculate that I should trust my gut and quit letting my head take over. And then we moved on to other things. After all, she couldn't see what I was talking about, so she couldn't really give me advice - except to agree with me when I said I should probably set it aside for a day or two and work on something else. Yes, that's what I'll do.

But when I went back into the studio to get out the other project, one look at my auditioning and I instantly knew what I should do. Thanks, Cindy, for whatever it was you did to clear the fog out of my head. I'm still waffling just a tad about adding the couched thread, but the binding choice was the right thing to do. A much better day in the studio than yesterday.

You are right about a friend clearing your thoughts. I don't know what I would do without my best friend Denise, she always helps me when I need it most. Blessings to you and good luck with your project. Jenna Louise
