Easily Amused...

...I freely admit, and sometimes easily pleased as well. I received payment yesterday for two pieces I sold at the open house. Both customers paid by check and each had made a notation in the "for" section. The woman recorded that this check was for "art work," and the man that his was for "quilt art." Why do I feel like I've arrived? I'm grinning big time here!

I just keep reminding myself that in order to be considered something, you have to say that's what you are. Get comfortable with the idea even if you're not sure it's totally true. Say it often enough, and you start believing it yourself and becoming it. And others will believe it too.

I am a quilt artist, I am an art quilter, I am a textile artist, I am an artist. Yeah, I think I believe it now.

Thanks! It feels a little weird after all this time of talking about wanting to sell work but with no takers until now. Very affirming.

Have you taken to wearing a beret, drinking straight espresso and smoking clove cigarettes yets? You've earned it, baby!

Sheila, it's so true. You are an artist when you say and feel you are. But having others say (write) it too, really makes it hit home. Congratulations!.

BC - Well I have the black pants and the black turtleneck sweater, but I get to wear a beret too? I'll run right out and get one along with some cigs. But sorry - can't handle the expresso straight...

Thanks, Sally - you expressed it exactly: it finally "hit home."

How about affecting a French accent? Or even better: don't say goodbye, always say "ciao".

And shave Jesse to look like a poodle (sorry, Jesse!)

Congratulations Sheila! Alternatively, you go go for the dangly earrings and long, colourful flowing clothes and interesting scarf look!

I understand that difficulty with calling oneself an artist so I think that it good advice (to repeat it often).

Ah, Felicity, I've always envisioned myself dressed that way, but never have the guts to try to pull it off! But the dangly earrings I occasionally do. Thanks.
