It's #INKtober!

I can't remember exactly why but I skipped INKtober last year. This year has been doing a good job of slipping away from me so I wasn't thinking about it even as October quickly approached. Then my goddaughter made a comment that she was looking forward to my INKtober sketches. Oh dear . . . and that was mid September in the midst of my big dyeing project. Would I be up for a daily sketch come October. Yeah, she sorta shamed me into it, at least thinking about it - lol. I've always done better keeping up all month if I have a theme and as soon as I settled on one, I got excited about INKtober again. Remember my year of shoes? Well, this is going to be my year of jewelry!

Here are the first six days. I'm starting with favorite pieces that belonged to my grandmother and going from there into pieces my mother wore and some of my own favorites. Click on the pic for a larger view. Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.

With my laundry room re-do quring sorting of contents, I decided to hunt through my 'valuable' box--it has a gold piece given my father on his 21st birthday by his mother; but I also have a brooch and fountain pen of my grandmother's. She never wore a wedding ring or necklace but she did wear that brooch on
go-to-meeting days. I don't kinow any of its history, perhaps a gift from her father would be my guess.

How lovely to have those two things even if you're not sure of who gave them to her. There are mysteries in my jewelry box and others I know exactly their history. I suppose I should be writing that down. BTW I was raised that women did not buy themselves jewelry and must be careful about accepting gifts of jewelry from boyfriends. It's taken me a long time to get over the can't-buy-myself-jewelry thing but as a widow with parents and other jewelry giving relatives long gone, the obvious gift givers no longer exist. It's been rather delightful to treat myself now and then when I see something I particularly like. Brooches were quite the thing during certain eras and I have some really pretty pins I've inherited but I've always found them difficult to wear, unless I was wearing a blazer with a lapel. Don't do much of that anymore.
