Cold Snap

Winds still howling today and the little bit of shoveling I did to get out to the paper box convinced me I didn't want to work on the car. It doesn't look like much (and indeed, there isn't a great deal of snow) but if you've ever tried slogging through a shoveling drifted snow, you know what a chore it is - compacted and heavy. I caught a ride to church with someone who's Outback lives in a garage - now I know that if I can get a run at it, I can get through it, but the angles all wrong the way I'm parked. A little clearing of snow first appears in order. Or...I keep thinking if I wait long enough, maybe the wind will blow all the snow off the car making my job easier!

Did you spot the frost on the window in the above picture? The inside of most of my storm windows have frosted over (old rental house, with leaks I can't begin to seal up), but this one was clear until this morning. Look at these lovely feathers that emerged.

Isn't nature just wonderful and full of surprises? Wouldn't these look beautiful on a quilt? Click on the picture for a larger view.

Beautiful picture!
It looks a bit too cold for me though...

Gosh they are amazing feathery shapes. Isn't nature wonderful? I see you're back in the depths of snow and cold and it doesn't seem 5 minutes ago that I was reading on your blog about you being snowed in - time flies! Keep warm x

Catching up on my blogging friends. Wow what beautiful a beautiful redwork collection. Such a treasure. The cross wall hanging is stunning. Happy Holidays! Jenna Louise

We're up here in the cold in Creston, BC too. We too have frosty windows where the seal is gone; no landlord to blame. We built with salvaged materials.
James just keeps feeding the fires.
The roads are ice and compact snow but if one pokes along like a little old lady they aren't too bad.

Thanks, thanks, thanks! I find it interesting that I see things like this differently the last few years. Certainly not the first time I've seen frost like this on windows, but I don't remember the fine detail, the graceful shapes.

Anabelle, all of us around here feel the same way - didn't we just put our snow shovels away? I don't even have much incentive to take current snow pictures. IF these feathers hadn't appeared, I doubt I would have snapped the picture of the car. I'm taking a chance on breaking the bank and turning up the heat, putting on extra layers and staying indoors as much as possible!

Nora, yes, I was thinking of you up in BC and thought I showed great restraint not blaming you personally for sending down the cold. ;-)

Jenna Louise, thanks for your nice comments about the redwork. Any ideas on how I should finish out those blocks?
